Conservation Update (CU) is the new journal of the European Research Centre for Book and Paper Conservation – Restoration. The journal is the successor of the ERC Newsletter, which was founded in 2011 and published with the collaboration of a number of experts, under the guidance of Patricia Engel, to meet the needs for publishing results of the current research into the preservation of written and graphic heritage. The issues of the ERC Newsletter are available on line, free-access, in the “Archive” section of the Conservation Update web page. Both periodicals have involved a team of peers for reviewing, responded to QA purposes and have ISSN numbers from their inception. Conservation Update is an international, double-blind peer reviewed journal that publishes papers on conservation, restoration and preservation of books and manuscripts, archival material and works of art on paper, ranging from common practices to the most up-to-date scientific research results, including new insights into the history of individual codices or writing schools, relevant new findings about the history of conservation, survey results and new conservation methods and materials. In addition, it distributes information about the latest research projects undertaken by the European Research Centre for Book and Paper Conservation-Restoration, recent activities and upcoming events of the Centre, as well as, conservation events worldwide. The journal invites publications by individual researchers or teams from the community of conservators, archivists, librarians, philologists and other professionals connected with conservation. Conservation Update is an online and open access publication, and this policy is meant to foster the safeguarding of written heritage in the best possible way. The publication language is English so as to be accessible to the widest possible audience. The journal comes out twice a year, in spring and autumn (April and November). Conservation Update is listed in AATA Online - Abstracts of International Conservation Literature. |
